How to Use the News to Promote Your Art
Join current editor of The Artist’s Journal Eve Lees for an illustrated talk, “How to Use the News to Promote Your Art.” She’ll show you how to submit a news release and how to design your own ad or poster that will stand out from the crowd! Come as a solo artist or with your art group! Contacting the media to have your art show or award made public is an excellent way to increase your exposure as an artist, and it’s free! Learn to format a news release correctly and with compelling content to increase the chance of it being published. Lees says, “Editors often receive news items that create more work to re-type, and/or is missing important information. Valuable time is needed to correct this and could result in your item not being published.” Lees will also provide tips on designing your own newspaper ads or posters, including a few “subliminal” tricks graphic designers use to capture and hold a viewer’s attention.
There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event concludes by 9pm. Refreshments are provided. This event is presented by the Surrey Art Gallery Association in partnership with Surrey Art Gallery, and with support from the Arts Council of Surrey.
